Program Summary:
The girls of Sababa had a fun night with learning about Jewish fashion designers and designing our own clothes.
Full Description:
Before the program i researched about Jewish fashion designers and choose about 15 that were interesting and the girls would be surprised about. Also before the event go to a fabric store and buy around fifteen different types of fabrics. it fabric should be around a half of a yard to a yard. Also buy embellishments that you could put on clothes, beads, ribbons, lace, etc.
The girls of Sababa BBG met for a night of fashion design and education about Jewish fashion designers. The girls each paid three dollars for fabric and everyone was asked to bring something for dinner for a potluck. After dinner the girls were able to pick their teams. The teams would be working together all night on designing things and playing different games. There was three teams with four to five people on each.
The first activity we did was guess what outfit went with each Jewish fashion designer. There was a booklet with four different designers each page having a designer and a few facts about them. The groups also got a plastic bag with twenty pictures in it. There was five pictures for each designer. The girls had to go through and paste the pictures on the correct page. When everyone was done go around and check everyones answers. The team with the most correct will get to choose their fabric first. After this game discuss some other Jewish fashion designers that you were surprised about or found interesting.
Next tell all the girls that they're all jewish like these designers and they can design clothes too. Let them know they will be designing an outfit for the model. The model will be someone from their team. Each team will also need to create a poster with their made up brand name and a logo. The team who won the game will get to choose three different fabrics first. Then continue the choosing with the second and third place teams With the left over fabric have the teams take whatever else they want. The teams will also be able to choose from the beads, ribbons, etc. the girls will have about an hour to make the outfit, using hot glue guns, scissors, or thread. Some of the girls chose to sew, but most chose to use glue guns. after everyone is finish designing we had a fashion show with all the designs. Someone else from each time presented the model and their brand name.
After the fashion show some girls decided to use left over fabric to make outfits for dolls.
Submitter's Suggestions:
make sure you get extra of popular colors and patterns.
If you have a large number of girls decide the teams and don't let them choose.
