Leader A: “Everyday we hear of these awful stories of death, disease, and hurt. It is uspetting and sometimes it seems like this is all that happens in life. Often times, we take the small thing for granted and wallow in self pity. In the news, between friends, anywhere you look there is a story being shared of pain and suffering.”
Leader B: “Why shouldn’t we be able to concentrate on the worlds love and kindness as well? Forget FML, and that wallowing, self-pitying tone. ‘Happiness can be found in the darkest of times if only one remembers to turn on the light’ –Albus Dumbledore. The website givesmehope.com, does exactly that. Many of these stories involve people who are going through rough tomes but they manage to find hope in the random acts of kindness from people around them. The acts of kindness described on this website keep you thinking about what a wonderful world we truly live in, even through all the bad.”
GMH Program:
1. Have girls read some of the most touching or meaningful Gives Me Hope (GMH) posts
2. Have girls write their own GMH and read them out loud.
Leader B: “You know what gives me hope? The MBA initiative in BBG, its an effort for everyone to get that feeling of self worth. Having thousands of teen strong, and proud of themselves and their Jewish identity gives me hope for a better future.”
Leader A: “Established in 1992, the Mind, Body, and Attitude (MBA) program provides as an outlet for B’nai B’rith Girls to focus on their physical, mental, and emotional well being in order to reach a heightened self-awareness. The young women will become empowered by understanding how to access and then channel the internal and external resources that they need. MBA is supposed to raise BBG’s self esteem and make them feel more empowered and confident, but why can’t we spread that concept beyond BBG?”
Leader B: “Girls all over the world struggle with eating disorders and low self-esteem. For some girls it’s a daily battle, feeling inferior and as though they are worthless.”
Leader A: “But what they often fail to realize is that there is no such thing as being worthless, each person has their own special skills and talents that they bring to the table and you are all beautiful in your own way.”
Leader B: “Today we’re going to do MBA our way and then spread it beyond this meeting. It’s an ongoing project for our chapter starting today. Its Operation Beautiful”
Operation Beautiful Program:
1. Bring in Operation Beautiful stories to read to the girls so they understand what it is all about.
2. Make giant “Sticky Notes” and tape one to each girl’s back.
3. Have all the girls go around and write anonymous ‘Operation Beautiful’ notes on the other BBG’s backs.
4. Once everyone has written something, as them girls to take the sticky note of the girl nearest them, then all come sit in a circle.
5. One at a time have the girl’s read each other’s notes out loud beginning by saying, “My sister B’nai B’rith Girl, (name), is…” and once they finish reading the note they can had it back to the girl. Continue until each girl has gotten her own note back.
6. Have markers and sticky notes and have the girls write Operation Beautiful notes to leave around the Temple or JCC where you meet, this way you spread the message to other people as well!
