    Program Summary:

We had an educational program about what it means to be above the influence.

    Full Description:

    Who? Dafna BBG
What? Social Action program talking about peer pressure and drugs and alcohol
    Where? Member's House
When? Growing Up With Dafna Sleepover Event
Why? to show the severity of drugs and alcohol

    Supplies Needed:

    • index cards
    • pens
    • post-its
    • posters
    • TV with DVD

We opened the program with a quick script read by the leaders. The script depicted a party scene with one girl being pressure by her friends to drink.

We then passed out index cards and read a series on statements. Girls were asked to write 'okay' or 'not okay' for each statement. We then explained that this card represented their values and if they should ever find themselves violating one of these values, that they are giving into peer pressure.

We then put in a DVD previously created and ran each of the 2010 Above the Influence commercials. After each one, girls were given questions to discuss with their group.

After the commercials were shown, each girl received two post-its and were asked to respond to the following two statements: "Being above the influence means..." and "... is my anti-drug".

Be sure to create the DVD before hand and to have questions prepared. The entire script is attached. Also, make a note to help keep discussion groups focused, as this is an important and serious program.

    Submitter's Suggestions:

    Have everything done beforehand!
Make sure the note cards are anonymous!
