Program Summary:

We did a serious program during our MBA event which focused on abusive relationships.

Full Description:

Who? Dafna BBG #1110
What? social action program about abusive relationships
Where? Dafna's New Year, New You MBA event
Why? wanted to show girls how to respect themselves and teach them what is ok and what is not when it comes to boys

The girls were told to sit in a circle and were given an index card and a pen.

They were read six situations and prompted to write "yes" or "no" about whether they thought the scenario was considered abuse.

After, we reviewed each situation and discussed them. It turned out that every situation was considered abuse and we discussed why.

Girls were then given a piece of paper with a heart made of puzzle pieces on it and asked to write the answers to questions in each puzzle piece.

The goal of this program was to spark some discussion and make girls more aware of what is simply arguing with a significant other and abuse with this significant other. The discussion turned into talking about abusive friendships too which ended up being a great discussion.

See the attached script for the full details.

Submitter's Suggestions:

Be sure to set the mood and let girls know that it is a serious program and be sure to ensure confidentiality that "nothing said in this room leaves this room."
