Program Summary:

BBYO Gladiators was a great project that included a themed Havdallah service, an informing slide show on the history of the Maccabees and the Greek army, and athletic competitions (The Medieval Relay Race and BBYO Angry Birds.)

Full Description:

8:00 - 8:20 - People arrive to Jordan Kaplan’s house and socialize.

8:20 - 8:30 - Themed service with Shaliach (David Enav)

8:30 - 8:45 - After the service, a slide show was shown. The slide told the history of the Maccabees, facts about Israel during the time period, history of the dispute of the Greeks vs the Maccabees, and other important details in that time period.

8:45 - 8:50 - People were split up into two groups the Maccabees and the Greeks.

8:50 - 9:20 - The first competition was a relay race between the two armies. The two armies had to have a sack race, then span around a bat five times, then finally had to run backwards and tag their team-mate, so they could continue the race. The winner of the competition will be able to be able to kick their ball in the next competition.

9:20 - 10:00 - The second competiton was a medieval angry birds. The two teams will be given 10 minutes to construct a fort protecting an item that relates to their civilization. Then like angry bird teams will have to throw a ball to try and knock down the other's item.  The forts will be constructed of random materials that are provided, and everyone is asked to bring one shoebox to help support their fort.
